How you can help
Open Arms East Devon is a free service so that anyone can attend without worrying about finances.
We rely on donations and volunteers.

If you would like to help you can:

  • Donate – click here to donate online
  • Volunteer – to help with sessions, our social media or to become a trustee – see information below
  • Fundraise – if you have an idea for a fundraising event or activity please get in touch
  • Become a sponsor
  • Help spread the word – we know there are many people living with mental health issues who suffer in isolation. If you can help us reach more people to let them know there is somewhere they can go that is safe and welcoming it could change their life.

We are a registered charity – Charity Number 1188977

Brilliant all–rounders

Our group sessions provide a space where people can come and chat with others, take part in activities or just sit quietly if they choose. If you are happy to be a friendly face, welcome members and help Garry with the planning and practicalities of running sessions you will be greeted with ‘open arms’! Involvement with the group is very rewarding and we are looking for someone who would be able to help reasonably regularly.

Creative session helpers

We are also looking for someone to have fun leading art and craft or cookery activities in our group sessions. We are constantly amazed at how, with the right guidance, our members lose themselves in producing joyful and thought provoking artwork. We had an exhibition of work at the Thelma Hulbert gallery early last year – https://www.thelmahulbert.com/?q=exhibitions/open-arms-exhibition. We also enjoy cooking and eating together – healthy eating with a side of naughtiness!

If you can bring the ideas and creativity we will provide the resources. Whether you can help regularly or on an ad hoc basis, we’d love to hear from you.

Tech guru
We recognise the importance of a professional and up to date online presence but haven’t quite got there yet! We would love some input and advice on updating our website and keeping our social media fresh.

Trustees
Would you like to take an active role in the governance and development of our small registered charity? If you have knowledge of mental health provision and / or experience of running similar organisations you would be very welcome. We meet in the evening every two months.

“Helping someone else also helps you – you always leave a session feeling better!”
